From the 1000+ books in the Reference section to the 12 desktop computers with Internet access, the NHHS Library has the reference materials you need to succeed in creating quality reports and projects. MAGNOLIA (Mississippi’s online library of databases) and DESTINY QUEST (LCSD Libraries’ operating system) are excellent sources for current and reliable information for all your research projects.

The NHHS Library is also the place to find the latest fiction. Your library has over 1500 novels just waiting to be read!

Stop by and check out a book or two or three, read a newspaper or magazine, or browse through the collection.  You’ll be glad you did!

  • Books may be checked out for a two-week period; they may be renewed for an additional two-week period.
  • Three books may be checked out at a time.
  • If a book is lost or damaged, the student must pay for the lost or damaged book in order to retain library privileges.
  • A refund for a lost book that has been paid for will be made only if the book is found and returned during that school year.
  • Reference materials must be used in the library. The librarian may give special permission for overnight checkout. In such cases, the reference book must be returned before the start of school the next day.
  • Eating, drinking, and gum chewing are not permitted in the library.
  • Each student must sign in at the circulation desk.
  • All books, backpacks, etc. are to be placed in the designated area by the library door.
  • The library staff does not issue passes to the restrooms, lockers, or to excuse tardiness.
  • ASK for help in locating books and other information. Your library staff is here to help you!

Printing Hints

Regular documents should be saved in .docx.
Type in Word; do not type in WordPad.
USB memory sticks can be used with library computers; USB memory sticks cannot be used with Mac books.
There is no charge for printing school assignments in black ink. (Limit 10 pages per assignment.) Multiple copies of the same page are $.10 per page.
Copies that require a large amount of ink are $.25 per page.
Color printing is not available.
Use print preview so you will know how many pages will be printed.
The cut and paste tool is useful in reducing the number of pages that are printed.
If printing more than 10 pages, be prepared to pay for each page over 10. All printing charges must be paid before receiving pages.
It is strongly suggested that each student purchase a flash drive to use when saving work.


Frequently Asked Questions about the Library

When is the library open?

The library is open every day at 7:20 a.m. The library closes at 3:30 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday; and 3:00 on Friday.

When can I come to the library?

You may come to the library before school, at lunch, and after school. You may also visit the library if you have a signed pass from a teacher.

When can I leave the library?

You may leave the library to return to your class as long as you have signed out and received permission from the librarian or the library assistant.

Can I bring food or drink into the library?

No food or drinks may be consumed in the library. If you have these items with you when you visit the library, please leave them on the counter.

Can I access my email in the library?

You may access your email to retrieve school-related documents or to register for the ACT. The library computers are to be used for school-related assignments only.

Can I use a flash drive to save material from a library computer?


Can I print from the library computers?

Yes. Please pay attention to the number of pages that you print. You may print up to 10 pages per assignment at no charge. Each page after 10 is $.10 per page. Pages with lots of ink will cost you $.25 per page. If you have a balance, you will have to pay that before receiving any printed pages.

Does the library have a photocopier?

The library has a photocopier. Copies are $.10 per page.

How many books may I check out and for how long?

You may check out up to three books for two weeks. These books may be renewed for an additional two weeks.

How do I find information in the library?

If you don’t know where to find specific information, ASK! The librarian and the library assistant are here to help you!



All Lowndes County School Libraries use DESTINY QUEST. DESTINY QUEST allows the user to search for a book by title, author, subject, or keyword. DESTINY QUEST also allows the user to check if a particular book is on the shelf or, if checked out, when it is due.  Directions for using DESTINY QUEST are posted above each computer. Every NHHS student has his/her own DESTINY account.

  1. Go to LCSD homepage.
  2. Under Quick Links, click on Destiny Library Manager
  3. Click on New Hope High School. The Destiny Quest page will open.
  4. Click on Log In tab.
  5. Enter your user name which is your MSIS number without the zeroes.
  6. Enter lowndes as your password.
  7. Destiny Quest opens.
  8. On this page you will see New Hope High School and your name in the gray bar across the top of the page.
  9. In the center of this page is the “Find” bar. Type in the topic you are researching. The following tabs will appear:
  • Library Titles- The books in the NHHS Library on this topic will be listed.
  • Web Sites- Web sites related to your topic will be listed. All of these have been verified for accuracy and reliability. Why use Google? Destiny has already done the searching for you




You are wasting your valuable time!

Those free search engines don’t monitor their info for accuracy or reliability. You have to do that for yourself.

MAGNOLIA is Mississippi’s collection of online databases available at your school library.

You can also access MAGNOLIA from your home computer; see your librarian for the password.

The information you find on MAGNOLIA is reliable. It has been researched and written by people who are experts in their fields.

The Fastest Way to Use MAGNOLIA in the Library or the Computer Labs

1. Click on Magnolia icon on the screen. 2. Click on High School Students.
3. Click on Student Research Center.
4. Enter your search topic after FIND:

You can search by a specific topic or use the categories on the left side of the screen.

Using MAGNOLIA at Home

If you are using a home computer, you will need the MAGNOLIA password to log on. The password is available at your school library or the public library. JUST COME BY THE LIBRARY AND ASK!
